Use nominal area as a planning input
These calculations describe the face of one nominal tile. They exclude grout joints, cuts, breakage allowances and packaging. They do not tell you pieces per carton, shipment weight or the final order quantity.
For example, a 30 m² room divided by 1.125 m² gives about 26.67 nominal tile faces. That arithmetic is not an order recommendation: the actual room layout, edge cuts and agreed spare quantity still have to be resolved.
Draw the joints and edge cuts
Mark the main sightlines, doorways, corners and fixed furniture on a measured plan. Compare more than one starting line and orientation. Record the proposed joint width and use actual dimensions once confirmed.
Ask the installer to plan movement joints with the complete assembly. TCNA notes that their design depends on conditions such as exposure and the supporting construction; a tile format alone cannot provide the joint schedule.

Before final approval, discuss delivery access, safe handling, cutting equipment, substrate condition and compatible setting materials with the installer. A larger nominal face does not establish product thickness or a suitable adhesive.
For a wet area, resolve falls, drain geometry and waterproofing as part of the design. Use the model-specific documents and the applicable installation instructions to confirm the proposed assembly.
Keep the comparison practical
Choose a format after reviewing the layout alongside samples and installation constraints. If two sizes are alternatives, keep them as separate enquiry lines with their model references, estimated quantities and unresolved questions.
